About Simply Yoga

Simply Yoga is owned and operated by Colleen Rasmussen. I am a wife and mother of three boys; a long-time resident of New York; and a former special education teacher for four years before starting my family.

I became interested in yoga after the birth of our third child and have been practicing yoga since 2001. I decided to become a certified yoga instructor in 2004, receiving my training through the American Viniyoga Institute under the instruction of Gary and Mirka Kraftsow. I have been teaching yoga since 2005.

In addition to my classes that are open to the public, I have taught mini courses for local schools, businesses, and church groups to educate them about the benefits of yoga. I have taught a series of group classes for Aetna employees and Lexington clients. I am also currently instructing classes at Sunnyview Rehab Wellness Center, the Johnstown Senior Citizens Center, the Gloversville Senior Citizens Center, and the Gloversville Public Library for their respective members. I have also been a presenter at the Elizabeth Cady Stanton Women’s Symposium at Fulton-Montgomery Community College.

What is Viniyoga?

The form of yoga I teach is called Viniyoga. Viniyoga refers to a practice that adapts various yoga methods to the unique condition and interests of the individual. My goal is to guide the class and individuals through an experience that will decrease discomfort, strengthen weaknesses, and relieve stress.

Certified Training

I received training through the American Viniyoga Institute in an extensive two year training program. I am certified by Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga Teacher at the 500 hour level.
